About

(mhr) studios is the creative outlet of Mark H. Rutledge. That’s me. I am passionate about design, typography, and media. Located in Hamilton, Ontario [mhr] studios is a First Nations communications company that specializes in graphic design, branding and print.

My site is a collection of creative thinking, writing, and work that represents the problem solving, simple solutions, and cost-effective results I’ve produced and delivered for clients. This site is also where I ramble on about design and all things that interest me.

I am currently on contract as a Senior Designer at Maximum 60 Design Communications. Prior to that I had worked with Hangar 13 Art & Design, a Graphic Design Studio located in Ottawa, Ontario. I have had the privilege in working there for over 10 years.

Having worked as a Senior Designer, Director of Client Relations and a Production Manager in my career, I have had the privilege in working with such clients as the Chiefs of Ontario, Grey Group Canada, Agro Health & Associates, Westpark Healthcare Centre, Bell University Laboratories, Bell Mobility, Nav Canada, Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC), Industry Canada, the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA), SPIRIT Magazine, Xerox, Royal Bank of Canada, Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards and Earth Rangers.

These projects range from print publications such as annual reports, corporate brochures, research reports, and book cover designs, to corporate branding which includes logo design and it’s applications (re. business cards, letterhead, envelopes, security passes, notepads, covers, brochure templates). As well as multimedia projects which includes everything from PowerPoint templates to interface design for web and CD/DVD authoring. I have over ten (10) years experience in print design and multimedia applications.

I am an honours graduate (1993) with a Diploma in Graphic Design from Seneca College in Toronto. I was granted R.G.D. accreditation in 2006 as a Registered Graphic Designer in Ontario. The Association of Registered Graphic Designers of Ontario (RGD Ontario) represents more than 3,000 graphic designers, managers, educators and students across Ontario.

I am also a  Traditional Pow-wow dancer and  a proud Canadian Aboriginal (Ojibway) belonging to the Little Grand Rapids First Nation in Manitoba. I have been dancing for a number of years and try to lead a good Anishnabe way of life. I have three wonderful children and I am happily married to my wife, Tracy.
