Nomadic Alternatives

June 17, 2010 - Leave a Response

I originally came across these guys when I saw a photo that a friend of mine took while she was visiting Vancouver. The photo was awesome, but the subject matter was just as impressive. I had to find out what artist was responsible for this mural. Turns out it’s a group that calls themselves Nomadic Alternatives. They are a talented group of artists from Vancouver that do films, murals, logos and graphic design.

This particular example is entitled “Under the Shadow of 10,000 Crows” and is the Nomads latest installment. The mural depicts the daily flight of the crows at dusk to roost as seen from Commercial drive. This wall is located at the corner of Commercial Drive and Venables.  Visit their website for more incredible samples of their work.

How To Give an Authentic Indian Speech *Editor's Note: This is something that I've wanted to do for a long time–give amazing Native writers a vehicle for their writing. There are several that I'm working with, and you can expect amazing stuff from them coming up. Now…I cannot claim credit for the below post, as much I'd love to (although Robert wanted me to make sure and take the blame for the photos. Yes. They're mine.). Please welcome this amazing young writer and feel free to gi … Read More

Graceful garages

May 15, 2009 - Leave a Response

Who knew that garages could look so elegant. These photos were taken by Branislav Kropilak, a very talented Prague-based photographer. I think I’ll post a series of his work in the coming days. But that’s enough for tonight. The long-weekend is calling.

Victor Reyes

May 13, 2009 - Leave a Response

While I was cruzing the internet today I came across this truly unique, inspirational and multi-talented artist – Victor Reyes. He is an artist from San Francisco who works in printmaking, fine art paintings, illustration, commercial design, and mural work.

I wish he could make a visit to Hamilton. He could teach these hacks a few lessons. I wouldn’t mind having a wall on my townhome covered with his work. For that matter, I’d proably invite him to come inside and do an entire wall in my living room. Mad props to Victor Reyes!! you can check out his work at http://reyes78.com.

Hi everyone,

I’ve been updating all the portfolio entries now that most of the initial layout is done. Between letting the dog out every 5 minutes and watching my 3 kids, I’m surprised I got anything completed at all. :)

I’m relatively new to all this, so I’m learning as I go along. For example this post kept going into my portfolio section, when it shouldn’t have. It took me a few minutes to figure out I should have categorized everything first.

I’m signing off for the night. I’ll be back at this first thing tomorrow morning.

Good night,

Mark
